AC Leaking Water Inside Your Home
The most common reason an air conditioner suddenly leaks water inside is a clogged condensate drain line.
Your AC removes moisture from the air as it cools. That water collects in a drain pan and flows out through the condensate line. In Tampa Bay, the system removes a lot of moisture, so the line carries a lot of water.
Algae and sludge thrive in our humid climate and build up inside the line until water can't drain. It then backs up and overflows the pan.
A backed-up drain line can trigger a safety float switch that shuts down your unit, or cause water damage to floors and ceilings if the system keeps running.

WHAT TO DO
Turn the system off and dry up standing water to limit damage to floors and ceilings.
If your system shut itself off, the float switch may have done its job. The drain line still needs to be cleared before the system can run normally.
Our AC repair technicians clear clogged lines and check the drain pan, float switch and coil, and our 24/7 emergency service responds when water is actively leaking.
Routine maintenance keeps condensate lines clear in our humid climate. More answers on our FAQ page.
