AC Blowing Warm Air in 95-Degree Tampa Heat

An air conditioner blowing warm air on a 95-degree Tampa day is usually caused by one of three problems: a clogged air filter, frozen evaporator coils or a refrigerant leak.

In Florida's high humidity, your system works harder to remove moisture. If it can't circulate air properly, it stops cooling effectively, and the coil can freeze over.

A clogged filter starves the system of airflow. With too little warm air moving across it, the evaporator coil gets too cold and ices up, which blocks airflow even more.

A refrigerant leak lowers the system's ability to absorb heat. Refrigerant isn't used up like fuel, so low refrigerant means there is a leak that needs to be found and repaired.

SAVE THE COMPRESSOR

First, make sure the thermostat is set to cool and check the air filter. If the filter is dirty, replace it.

If you see ice on the indoor coil or the refrigerant lines, or the air still isn't cold, turn the system off immediately. Running it can damage the compressor, the most expensive part of the system.

Then schedule a professional diagnostic. Our AC repair and diagnostics team finds the cause, and our 24/7 emergency AC repair service is there when it can't wait.

Regular maintenance keeps filters, coils and refrigerant levels in check before summer. More answers on our FAQ page.
